Today, the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center and St. Peter's Episcopal Church (along with some other major funding and housing players) are holding a ceremonial groundbreaking on a 20-unit project for developmentally disabled adults in the Richmond .
Dubbed the 29th Avenue Apartments, the building was slated as of 2007 to break ground in spring or summer 2009, so the project's clearly a bit behind schedule.

The Los Angeles Times recently released an article about how prepared Southern Californians are for a large earthquake.
It reported that California saw a rise in quake awareness and retrofitting after the state recorded a series of major temblors over seven years: Whittier in 1987; Loma Prieta in 1989 and Northridge in 1994.

The Bay Area's bridges weren't originally built to withstand earthquake like the 8.8-magnitude quake that rocked Chile on Saturday, but recent seismic retrofit projects have helped make them stronger.
"I wouldn't want to be on there when a quake hits, that's for sure," said Katie Haizlip, who came from Chicago to gaze at the views in Sausalito.

Geologists say we could be in for the big one, but it may not be for the reason you're thinking.
